MOLD
There is always some mold everywhere – in the air and on many surfaces. Molds have been on the Earth for millions of years. Mold grows where there is moisture.

Exposure to damp and moldy environments may cause a variety of health effects, or none at all. Some people are sensitive to molds. For these people, molds can cause nasal stuffiness, throat irritation, coughing or wheezing, eye irritation, or, in some cases, skin irritation. People with mold allergies may have more severe reactions. Immune-compromised people and people with chronic lung illnesses, such as obstructive lung disease, may get serious infections in their lungs when they are exposed to mold.

Inside your home you can control mold growth by:
-
Controlling humidity levels;
-
Promptly fixing leaky roofs, windows, and pipes;
-
Thoroughly cleaning and drying after flooding;
-
Ventilating shower, laundry, and cooking areas.

If mold is growing in your home, you need to clean up the mold and fix the moisture problem

Mold Solutions
Surface Cleaning
At times, mold might be a superficial problem, resulting from brief, sudden water incursion. When this is the case, the problem can be solved by cleaning the affected surface with chemicals that specifically target the source of the mold growth and prevent recurrence.
Drying and Replacement
In more serious cases, mold growth may be occurring from a sever or chronic water incursion which affects wall cavities, ceiling cavities, sub-floors, or any combination. When this is the case, it may be necessary that the affected area be exposed and fully dried before it is again enclosed. This will require the removal of walls, ceilings or floors. The surfaces must be dried, cleaned, treated, sealed, and then enclosed with new materials. Additionally the source of the mold growth must be identified and eliminated.
Total Home Cleaning
In rare cases, air sampling conducted by a industrial hygiene firm may identify the presence of a problem species of mold or a high level of a common mold type without identifying an obvious source of the mold (no visible growth). When this is the situation, the solution is whole home cleaning. All surfaces and contents of the home are professionally decontaminated. Surfaces are treated and sealed. Air handling systems and ducts are cleaned and filtration is evaluated. The effectiveness of the whole home cleaning is measured through air sampling conducted by an independent industrial hygiene firm.
